The selection of the bubbles

We have interviewed Nicola, our wine expert. Upon entering our cellar, you will be welcomed by his smile and absolutely contagious passion for this universe. Here is his story.

When did you start working in this sector?
I’m 46 and, like many of those of my generation, the only wines I knew of were Prosecco and Cabernet. I was studying at the time and my future seemed totally different from what actually happened. One day, I decided to change my life completely and I quit working in the sector I had studied for. I bought a pub. Here too, the typical Venetian clientele drank only Prosecco and Cabernet… However, it was in the bar where I learned more about the world of beverages. It was certainly great, but not much more. Until… I drank a glass of Sagrantino di Montefalco.

Tell us about that moment: how did your passion come to be?
I can still remember the exact moment. I drank a glass of Sagrantino di Montefalco and it was love at first sip; the emotion was incredible. It was a whole new world, I discovered that wine is something marvellous to be experienced and understood.

How did this interest for wine evolve?
I decided to study, a lot. I took three A.I.S. (Italian Sommelier Association) courses and became a part of this infinite and spectacular world. Like everybody, I thought that after the courses I was well on my way and knew enough, but in time I understood that it was only the beginning. Many years have passed and, I must say, I have learned a lot: I’ve come to the conclusion that wine is its land, its region, the people who produce it, the heart and passion that every wine maker or farmer puts into a glass. Only by being hands on where the wine is produced, can you understand what it’s truly made of, no matter the olfactory or sensory taste.

A passion and a job that brought you here, in Denota.
I love my job because I love wine and I’m proud to pass it on. I have been working here in Denota/Segato for 10 years: I manage the cellar and I am always ready to make suggestions, telling and sharing beautiful and fascinating stories with the clients; stories that cannot be found on a label.
